Town Centre Day, The Sonic Tuck Shop and a cup of Tea

Generally our life in jelly is interesting and changing continually and the next fourteen days are going to be just like that.

Listen, The Domestic Soundscape

Firstly Felicity Ford, artist and creator of The Domestic Soundscape (as heard on Radio 4) will be creating a new installation in the jelly ArtPad. This piece of work will be exhibited as part of the Open for Art Project in 27/28 Market Place (previously used for a pop-up jelly show in June 2009).

The Sonic Tuck Shop is a project by Felicity Ford that aims to celebrate the world of food through sounds. Originally an installation at Sonic Art Oxford where viewers could buy popcorn, fizzy drinks and exploding candy in firework-style packaging, the idea is being expanded to fill a handmade book! This book draws attention to the sounds of food in an imaginative and playful way, and includes a helpful tear-out shopping list detailing sonically interesting foods, a menu-plan for a day in which meals are planned according to the way they sound, a manifesto that explains the idea of the Sonic Tuck Shop, a CD packed full of Sonic Tuck, and much more! For Eat Reading, Ms. Ford will create a window display featuring many ideas from The Sonic Tuckshop Book, so that passersby can glimpse into its pages from the street… Food will never sound the same once you have heard and seen The Sonic Tuckshop!

The piece will be installed 4/5 June 2010.

The day after that is Town Centre Day and we’ll be working with art students, RISC, New Directions, Reading Museum ~ come and find us all on Broad Street, Reading from 11am-4pm. In the evening we will be popping along to RISC to see a new exhibition by the photographer Salvo Toscano who is also taking part in an exhibition for us.

Then after all this hard work (ok, so it’s all very enjoyable) we will be hosting a book launch with The Outcasts at jelly. There are the VIP guests Susan Crawford and the Skein Queen, cake, tea and all are welcome.

Sounds like a very good fourteen days to us.
