The last weekend of the Festival

After a weather warning last Friday that the Saturday would be strong winds, lashings of rain and not much fun, the Outside:Inside Festival was moved Inside for the last day, that meant that the jelly element – The River, the outside installation and The Outcasts all had to be rescheduled or rehoused inside somewhere. So the plan was to reschedule the installation and the River at Nuit Blanche and the Outcasts were to roam the cafes in small groups to create the giant blanket.

This in turn ended up to be the festival weekend with the least rain, although it threatened it all day. If you did turn up for The River there was actually an unexpected performance of it and the Outcasts took over Market Place. Salvo Toscano took some fantastic pictures of the day but until I get his permission here’s some from Knitting for Art

Outside:Inside Festival Saturday August 21st

Last week, we were in Market Place. The music was great, starting with Dolly and the Clothespegs, you can look here for a little snippet. It rained mammoth rain so unfortunately The Gherkin riders got a little wet but the streets were full of people listening to music and wandering around to see what else was happening.

There was an art market, down the Bristol and West Arcade (thankfully sheltered from the rain) – thank you to all the artists that took part – it was a great day to spend with you all – Bithja Moor, Clemens Stiegleder, David Fairservice, Fabrizio Bicetti, Gerhard Bissell, Ksenija Kronin, Marianne Fowler, Martin Stubbington, Neile Wright and Sue Carson. Links to most of the artists web pages can be found here. We had varying feedback from visitors, some thinking the artists should have more prominent spaces (although we were thankful for cover) and also requests that this should happen more often.

Outside:Inside Saturday 14 August

Last weekend, we were down at the riverside at The Oracle with Vicky Vergou. Vicky was working with people who were European with English as a second language and she was speaking to them for a project she has been working on for the past 5 years which involves interviewing the participants. We had a good response that day but need more so if you are interested please contact us at jelly.

Last week we were also taking part in the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Family Resource Centre UK and we are still recovering from the 300+ children who joined us in a junk sculpting project – thankfully we had very few resources left to carry home.

This weekend is the 3rd weekend of the outside:inside festival, we will be in Bristol and West Arcade running an art market, artists include Bithja Moor, Gerhard Bissell, Ksenija Kronin, Martin Stubbington, Marianne Fowler, David Fairservice, Neile Wright and more, at the far end of the Arcade will be an exhibition of some photos from the recent Reading Festival by Tim Redgrove and over at O’Neills in a co-curating project with Reading’s Amy’s Ghost will be Mirren Kessling in a live art performance. Both art events will be running from 12-6pm.

Outside:Inside week 2

Thanks to everyone who came to Outside:Inside Festival last weekend, we’ve been busy getting things ready for this weekend (full details can be found on the festival website) and we will be down at The Oracle Riverside on Saturday with artist Vicky Vergou.

Yesterday, we were at Rivermead, celebrating the 20th birthay of the Childrens Information Centre (or Family Resource UK as they are now known)

That’s a photo at the beginning, we were mobbed by creative minds and then opportunities to take photos slipped by. The resources were pitiful at the end but the creations leaving the building were ingenious.

Next week, we are installing a new exhibition as part of the Outside:Inside Festival and Open for Art.

Tim Redgrove was brought up in Reading, UK and has worked in photography for many years. From 1995 to 2003 he worked as a sports photographer at Reading Football Club producing photographic work for 2 books about the club as well as calendars and publicity work. During this time Tim also worked as sports photographer for both the Reading Chronicle and Reading Post. He then spent several years photographing the Tour de France including Lance Armstrong’s record breaking victories in 2004 and 2005 and in 2008 he photographed the victorious Great Britain track cyclists including Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton prior to the Bejing Olympics.

His work has appeared in the The Times, The Guardian and The Independent newspapers as well as publications in the UK and Europe. His first ever photographic work was as a publicity photographer for a theatre company he used to run in London. Tim co-founded the company with Dominic Cooke (now Artisitc Director at the Royal Court) and Ruth Jones (writer and star of BBC’s Gavin and Stacey).

For the last 3 summers Tim has produced a photographic record of the fans visiting the Reading Music festival, documenting the many varied visitors to Reading’s landmark festival.
