Arts on a Saturday

Last week we had a wonderful evening of music, art, demos and good wine as part of our fourth Third Thursday.

The Walk (off King Street) definitely had a different feel that night with the Caversham Artists, inhabiting the space that had been provided by London and County through the Open for Art scheme.

Our new sponsor, award-winning, locally based organic wine merchant Vintage Roots, offered guests the chance to try a number of superb wines (I can only talk from experience of the one I tasted but there were mighty nods of approval) and our official photographer Salvo Toscano, recorded the night through his lens. We are very privileged to be supported by such great people, the success of the Third Thursday events is based on our partners, who we all work with and the audience so thank you all for taking part.

And if you missed the open evening, there is a chance this Saturday 26 February to meet the artists and see the works between 11am until 5pm. It will be worth it. So before we give you  snapshot of the evening, courtesy of Salvo, put the date in your diary for the next one, Thursday 17th March, we have a real treat for you then too.

A little reminder that tomorrow night, Thursday 17 February, is Third Thursday.

We will be in The Walk (off King Street) with the Caversham Artists, from 5.30pm. The event includes an exhibition of their current works, and the artists will all be present to talk about and demonstrate their work and tell you more about their forthcoming Open Studios.

This is the fourth Third Thursday we have hosted in partnership with Reading UK CIC this month using space provided by London and County through the Open for Art scheme.

Our new sponsor, award-winning, locally based organic wine merchant Vintage Roots will be inviting you to taste specially selected wines between 6-8pm. jelly are proud to be working again with Vintage Roots, a local business that started in 1984 with a passion for good wine and organic produce, and these values, passion and drive are still as strong today. Neil Palmer, one of the founders and Directors will be sharing his knowledge and expertise.

The Third Thursday is a new monthly event showcasing the creative talent of Reading,  including visual, literary, music and performing arts.  All the events are held in non-traditional arts venues around the town centre, on the Third Thursday of each month. The team behind Third Thursday will be able to tell you more about the future programme and how you can become involved – we have some real treats lined up!

Reading UK CIC is proud to support jelly and Third Thursday.
“We believe that our cultural life is one of the things that makes Reading great. Our town’s energy and our commitment to the arts are just two of the reasons so many people want to live and work here.”

Initially funded from a central government grant, our programme aims to appeal to an audience that might not find the usual “after five” town centre offer relevant to them. While Third Thursday is currently using single venues each month, we intend to broaden the scope to multiple venues in mid 2011

Hopefully see you there
Suzanne, Jo and Justine
